Portable Appliance Testing, or PAT Testing, applies to all electrical equipment connected by a plug & socket-outlet and is the procedure by which electrical appliances are regularly checked to ascertain they are safe for use.
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation clearly states that all employers have a legal obligation to maintain all electrical equipment in order to ensure a safe working environment, and it is the responsibility of the duty holder to see that this obligation is met. Risk Assessment should be carried out by the duty holder in order to determine the test frequency for each appliance.
